A fourth generation woodworker specializing in lathe work since 1979, Bill Folger is from Grand Rapids, Michigan. He moved to Colorado in 1970 and is one of the first members of the American Association of Woodturners.
Stated Folger, I have always been fascinated by the interesting grain patterns in wood. While I try to highlight these features in my turnings, I also feel that good form is equally important. Striving to create pieces that are beautiful in their simplicity of form can be as demanding as other aspects of turning. I enjoy experimenting with new techniques and refining my skills. It is my feeling that beautiful objects can enhance the lives of those who use them. All woods, native and exotic, are harvested with sensitivity to the environment. Many of these woods are endemic to Colorado.
Folger's work has been shown in the First National Show of Vessels and Forms in Houston, Texas; the Fourth through Eleventh National Woodturned Objects shows in Mendocino, California; and the 3rd Vessels and Forms Show in St. Paul, Minnesota. Folger also had work selected for the collection of President Jimmy Carter.
